You can still visit this fort as well as other military structures that were used up until World War II. The forts and other structures lie within the Gulf Islands National Seashore which is on both the East and West ends of the island.

There’s also plenty of shopping and a great beach for the little ones. Head to Flounders and enjoy some great beach front dining. If water sports are more your thing, there a plenty of options. From watercraft rental to parasailing, the beach has got you covered. Head across to the Gulf side and you will find just as many great options. Try your hand at fishing on the pier that stretches almost 1500 feet out over the Gulf. Catch some rays on the huge beach with sugar-white sands or head to one of the restaurants for some great food, drink and entertainment.
